Inspiration: when I smile to myself I experience the lightness of being.
Smiling makes life so much easier to live.
I love a smile as it creates an instant bond between people.
The smile of wisdom brings calm at a time of crisis.
When we smile we feel lighter, and expressing our positiveness strengthens our lives and the people who live around us.
Unless you have a natural gift, it is not easy to learn how to smile, but you can, you just have to become aware of your weakness and not take yourself too seriously.
This requires humility, and turning a critical eye towards your own being, not merely that of others.
I wanted a very easy shape to embody all this, something light and fun to look at, and Karim Rashid’s design for Humour does just that.
I experimented with different materials, all worked by hand, from warm wood carved by a sculptor and black Belgian marble sculpted by hand to exciting methacrylates that bring the shape to life with their bright flou colours, all painstakingly handcrafted with true passion.
Each of the materials was chosen to express the versatility of Humour, which I wish could always be an animated part of our lives.
